San Diego immigration lawyer Jan Bejar received Mexico’s prestigious Ohtli Award Monday at a Mexican National Day ceremony on the UC San Diego Campus.
In accepting the award from Mexican Consul General Marcela Celorio, Bejar made a plea for better understanding of immigrants’ role in America, saying they are “workers who want to work” and that anti-immigrant feelings are the result of ignorance.
“We need DACA. We need the Dream Act. And we don’t need just a temporary fix,” he said.
