Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently put out the statistics for deportations in February 2025. What these stats show is that roughly 11,000 people were deported in that single month. It will certainly be interesting to see how these numbers may move in the future.
For right now, though, the numbers are actually slightly down compared to February 2024. Last year, over the same time period, there were roughly 12,000 deportations. So they have declined slightly, and that’s why watching the numbers for March will be so crucial. Will the numbers stay roughly the same again, or will there be a sharp increase or decrease?
Border crossings are down
One thing that may play into this, according to reports from NBC News, is that border crossings in general have declined. In fact, many of the people who were deported last month simply encountered ICE agents when they were coming across the border. Some of them were then sent back to their home countries. This happened with both legal and illegal immigration, these reports note.
It does make it easier for officials to move forward with these deportations when they happen in this fashion. The process can be fairly streamlined. Once people have entered the United States and dispersed into other states or moved away from the border, it can be much more complex for ICE agents to locate them and start the deportation process.
Understanding your rights
Deportation and immigration are both major issues in the United States right now and look to be for the foreseeable future. If you or a family member are in jeopardy of deportation, be sure you are well aware of the legal steps you can take and the rights that you have.
